Retrieving information based on a location
LocalView is based around presenting a user with information centred on a
selected location. One of two methods can be used to select a location which is
then used throughout the application to customise the information displayed.
The two methods available are:
-
Using an address
-
Using the map
Once LocalView has a valid selected location all the tabs will be updated with
information to reflect this:
-
Location Details
– this will provide access to local authority information relating directly
back to the selected location. This may include details such as planning
constraints, boundary information, waste collection, local representatives etc.
Hyperlinks are provided with some results. Click on these links to be directed
to further information on related web pages.
-
In The Area
– this page allows you to find out more information regarding services and
amenities found around the selected location. To view results for a particular
service click on a service type from the list presented in the left hand panel.
Once the results have been displayed the search area can be adjusted using the
drop down box at the top of the page. To view the location of a service on a
map click on the green ‘locate’ button for that particular record.
-
Find The Nearest
–this provides a quick look up for the nearest services and amenities to the
selected location. The location of any one of the results can be displayed on a
map by clicking on the green ‘locate’ button for that particular record.
-
On The Map – this gives access to an interactive map which is
highlighted and centred on the selected location. Tools are available to allow
you to navigate around map and also change the layers displayed. For more
information see Working with the map
.
-
Report A Fault – this enables you to report faults such as abandoned
vehicles, potholes and graffiti directly through to the local authority. The
location of the fault can be specified using the selected location or via a map
or address search. For more information see Reporting a
fault. A user can, at any point, chose to change their selected
location by simply using one of the methods mentioned above.
The address search feature is available in the ‘Location Details’ tab. To search
for a particular address, enter the address details into the appropriate boxes
and click the search button. If you need more information or are having
problems finding an address refer to the ‘Using the address search’ section
below. On selection of an address LocalView will be populated with information
related to that location. Your selected address will also be permanently
displayed in the help bar below the tabs. Move through the LocalView tabs to
explore the results. If you wish to update your selected location at any time,
return to the ‘Location Details’ tab and repeat the above steps.
To search for an address enter the property information such as house number,
street, town etc into the appropriate boxes, then click on search. If more than
one match is found you will be shown a list of possible matches. Select the
closest match by clicking directly on the address. Possible matches for the
address will continue to be displayed until a final address is selected. If you
are having problems finding an address some of the following may help:
-
Using a wildcard
Wildcards, written as *, are useful if you are not sure on the spelling for a
particular name e.g.
Dryd*
could be used to find Dryden Close
-
Entering less information
If you have a very long address and no match is found try cutting some of the
information out e.g.
Flat 4, Crown Terrace, 10 Highbury Drive, Little Burnsburgh, Nr Berkhamsted,
HP22 4GH
could also be found using
10 Highbury Drive, Little Burnsburgh
The address search would return a list of the Flats on 10 Highbury Drive from
which you could select Flat 4.
-
Entering just a postcode
Addresses can be found by entering just a postcode. This will return all the
properties found within that postcode area from which an address can be
selected.
The LocalView ‘Set Location’ map tool is available on the toolbar in the ‘On
The Map’ tab. To work with the tool:
-
Use the navigation buttons and tools to move the map to your area of interest.
-
Select the ‘Set Location’ tool and click on the map to mark the point you are
interested in.
On marking a point LocalView will be populated with information related to that
location. Move through the LocalView tabs to explore the results. If you wish
to update your selected location at any time, return to the ‘On The Map’ tab
and repeat the above steps.
